Has a tendency to slip out a little

I have been using this almost daily for a couple of months and like it, but I don’t love it. I had an amazon dual car charger that I was fairly happy with, but we needed a car charger for the back of our van, so I decided to move the amazon one to the back of the car and to get a smart-charger for the front of the car, since I use it a lot and wanted something that would possibly charge faster (not that I thought the amazon charger was slow or anything..I just wanted to upgrade). So I got this. It charges pretty quickly…my husband remarked that it charges faster than his car’s USB slots. The only problem I have with this is it tends to slip out a little, so I find that about 30% of the time I plug my phone in, I have to push it back into the socket to connect my phone to power. That, of course, means that I have to check the connection every time I plug it in (my iphone sometimes doesn’t ding when it starts charging, especially when I use the car chargers…don’t know why that is). This is an issue that I did not have with the amazon charger…once that one was plugged in, it was in there tight. This one, not so much. It’s not the biggest deal in the world, so I’m fairly happy with this charger, but it does take it down a star.

Good charger, bad service. (Good service…read the review)

UPDATE: Anker contacted me a couple days later and promised me a completely fixed unit. 2 days later I see a package in the mailbox. I didn’t hesitant to throw it on the electronic load and plug it into the car for a good drive. Lo and behold, everything is fixed. The center spring was less “springy” the side springs were hard as a rock, and the thermal design was much better. At 10v 3 amps the charger is equally hot (a good thing because the heat is actually getting out of the plastic case). It held a constant 4.8 amps at 5.03 volts for 8 hours. The charger is working fine without even picking up a screwdriver. Anker still hasn’t failed me yet, words from a long time customer studying electrical engineering.

High quality, less expensive, more versatile, and almost as fast as Quick Charge version

Even if you have a phone with Quick Charge you’re not likely to notice much difference between the more expensive Anker QC 3.0 versions and this charger. I also have this Anker charger

Pops out easily

Edit: Anker reached out and sent me a different model – much better! Thank you!

Problems the first time around – but good customer service and a replacement

Wanted to like it, but before I had even had it a week, the whole thing fell into about 8 pieces in my hand as I (gently!) pulled it from the socket. The tiny metal tip went flying, so I couldn’t even put it back together. Junk.

Less noise than most!

 on February 16, 2018
By Derek Rowe
If you have ever plugged your car’s stereo system into your phone while your phone was also charging in your car, you may have noticed an annoying wine coming through your speakers. This is typically due to electrical noise from your car’s alternator passing through to your phone or from electrical noise generated by your 12v to 5v USB adapter affecting your phone. Compared to other brands I have used, this USB charger generates the least noise. It generates less than I can hear, but I’m sure it still generates a small amount.

Buy it. You won’t regret it.

I bought one of these on a whim and it was a great decision. Compared to a cheap drugstore adapter… Well, there’s no comparison. Anker is on a whole other level of awesomeness. This is the second time I’ve ordered one of these from Anker (I bought another one for my mom) and I continue to be incredibly satisfied with the performance of their products. The adapter charges quickly, works just as well in the cigarette lighter of my ’95 Suburban as it does in my mom’s much newer Dodge Avenger, and is sleek and pretty to boot. Buy it. You won’t regret it.

Best car charger for Nexus 5

I use it for my old trusty Nexus 5 which is a power hog. This charger puts out more current than the 6 other car chargers that I own, a few of them also “high power output”. With other chargers, the phone battery will actually lose capacity while the phone is in use. At most, this puts out about 1 amp, but that’s the fault of the older tech phone. I’ve used it for more than a year, it has held up well. The LED is important to make sure that the charger is seated correctly in the socket. It’s as compact as any charger.

This charges very well.
